Even Faster Firefox!

March 28th, 2005

Thanks Benny… I searched about the Firefox being faster and found it..
So for those of you Firefox users, here is a cool “fix” to make Firefox even faster!

HTTP pipelining
Here’s a great go-faster tip for Firefox, the free, rock-solid, secure browser from the Mozilla Foundation:
1.Type “about:config” into the address bar and hit return. Scroll down and look for the following entries:
network.http.pipelining
network.http.proxy.pipelining
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests

Normally the browser will make one request to a web page at a time. When you enable pipelining it will make several at once, which really speeds up page loading.

2. Alter the entries as follows:

Set “network.http.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.proxy.pipelining” to “true”

Set “network.http.pipelining.maxrequests” to some number like 30. This means it will make 30 requests at once.

3. Lastly right-click anywhere and select New-> Integer. Name it “nglayout.initialpaint.delay” and set its value to “0”. This value is the amount of time the browser waits before it acts on information it receives.

If you’re using a broadband connection you’ll load pages MUCH faster now!

Prefetch

This tweak changes how Windows loads Firefox. If you prefetch the application it will start much faster. Edit your Firefox shortcut to read:
‘ “C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxfirefox.exe” /prefetch:1 ‘
That will prefetch the required .dlls and make Firefox load much faster each time you load it. Just make sure to keep that prefetch code in the shortcut and to run it once per-reset for the prefetching effect.

I’ve notice my Firefox starts up and loads pages MUCH faster, even faster than IE

Oh yeah, if you use firefox, you can subcribe to my site by bookmarking it. Just click the orange icon in the lower right hand corner.
